I'm Laura, the founder of Wondrous Child. I'm a Melbourne-based teacher and mum with a deep love of childhood, creativity and the magic of learning through discovery.
For 8 years, I worked as a primary school teacher, where I observed the different ways children learn, communicate and make sense of the world around them. I also spent two years working privately with children as a tutor, focusing on writing, visual arts, storytelling, wellbeing and emotional awareness. These experiences have shaped the way I think about learning. I've seen that children don't always need a worksheet, another lesson or an adult telling them exactly what to do. Sometimes children need an invitation... a question that sparks an idea; special paper; a collection of beautiful materials; a walk outside; a feeling they can explore through colour; the freedom to make something special.
Learning without limits
Wondrous Child was born from a desire to bring more of this kind of learning into children's everyday lives at home. The collections I curate are inspired by open-ended, child-led and Reggio-inspired approaches to learning, where children's ideas, questions and perspectives are valued.
Rather than telling children what their finished creation should look like, I suggest providing the materials and invitations, and let their imagination take the lead. For example, a writing prompt might become a story, a drawing or an entire imaginary world; a feeling might become a colour, a shape, a painting or a conversation; a walk in nature might become an observation, a collection, a question or a work of art.

As a mum, I also understand that creating meaningful experiences for children can sometimes feel like another thing on an already very long list... Finding ideas... Gathering materials... Preparing activities... Cleaning everything up...
